Hermia loves Lysander. Lysander loves Hermia. Helena loves Demetrius but Demetrius loves Hermia. Six men rehearse a play for a royal wedding and everyone, lovers and actors, are drawn into the kingdom of Oberon and his Queen, Titania, a surreal world of fairies where imagination begins to overtake reality.
Director's Concept:
To what extent do our dreams and imaginations affect our lives? Where does fantasy begin and reality end? Basically – what is reality? Those were the questions I had in mind when creating my concept for this show. I want to approach this timeless play from a fresh angle, exploring not only the comedy but also the disturbing idea that we are not in complete control of our actions. I want to distance the play from any specific time period and concentrate on the language, characters, and explore just how emotive the physical and visual aspects of a production can be.
