“As part of my role as Community Outreach Officer for The Student Workshop, I aim to create workshops and events whereby young people in the local community who might not have had the opportunity to get involved with drama could experience the enjoyment and challenges it brings. One way in which we will do this, is by creating workshops, inspired by a Student Workshop Production. Working alongside a cast and production team of that particular show, together, the Community Outreach team would create a workshop of games and exercises for the young people reflecting the plays issues or if the play is inspired by a particular theatre practitioner, we could build a workshop based on their techniques. ‘Bard for Beginners’ has been running for a year now and I would definitely want to continue and develop this brilliant scheme, whereby Student Workshop members develop a workshop based on a particular Shakepseare play and take it to local schools such as Strodes College, Manorcroft Primary School and Bishopsgate School. Throughout the year I am also keen to work with Age Concern and a performing arts company called Bloomin Arts for young people and adults with learning difficulties. So…a very packed but fun and fruitful year ahead! I’d love to hear all of your ideas and hope that you’ll sign up to join the team and be involved in one of our schemes!”
