Synopsis :A group of struggling artists are invited to the home of one of their former, more successful friends. After a night full of alcohol and repressed aggression, a horrific event results in a shift of power. At this point, the artists are left with a choice; fame or friendship. A play full of sex, drugs, jealously, sardonic love and a desperate struggle for success. Director’s (Sasha Haughan's) Concept As Ravenhill developed his play without definite characters, I believe he encourages us to explore various interpretations within his writing. Using the riveting words of Ravenhill as a starting point, I have found 5 distinct characterisations to emerge out of the text. I wish to explore these possible characterisations alongside my actors, enabling them to provide their own input into the creative process of the piece. As a result of this, I believe greater characterisations can be created as the actors become entirely confident and connected to their role. I also wish to combine these strong characterisations with a small element of physical movement which will be explored in order to symbolise the passing of time. However, this remains up to interpretation and if proves unsuccessful, it will be scrapped. My concept hopes to enclose the audience within the troublesome world of ‘Pool no water’, leaving them to question the authentic nature of humanity and their own psyche.
As a result of this, the set will be constructed as an empty pool, with the audience creating 3 of the walls. The actors will perform amongst the audience, creating a claustrophobic feel to the set.
