Adam Penny
Adam is a 3rd Year Drama student and could not be more thrilled to be taking over The Student Workshop for the academic year of 2011-12; he has been an avid fan of the society for all of his career at RHUL so far – long may it continue! Having spent the past two years getting involved with as much as possible – being a performer, producer, ASM, lighting designer, lighting operator (and even Front of House Assistant!) he decided it’s time to step up a stone and do what he thinks is best for this society in its vast amount of fields and opportunities. He thoroughly hopes you do the same as he did when he arrived at this department and GET INVOLVED. Come to our socials, see our performances, take part in our workshops and ask questions at our ‘In The Spotlight’ events – you won’t regret any of it.
“The Student Workshop is here to enable students to develop alongside their degree, and this will be my main aim as President. I will encourage Theatre Criticism students to review our performances, designers to assist production teams and Playwriting students to take part in ‘Midnight at the Boilerhouse’ events each term. I plan to work with the viewpoint that I am providing the stepping stool for the society becoming second to none: on my part, changes will be made and this will be with the hope that it is continued throughout many years to come.
My committee and I will focus on two things: interaction and communication. Each student will feel comfortable around committee members and able to ask advice and general questions of interest, and the society will communicate with the department and its students in many ridiculous but effective ways.
Whilst the Studio Theatre is out of use for this academic year, I will fight for the best possible solutions whilst the department and the society give you the best possible service at the same time. The Boilerhouse will be a frequent substitute, but if/where necessary I will aim to find better options. In line with this, I will work closely with every production team of each production with our outward-facing profile in mind at all times – they will all be to the best possible standard with regards to efficiency, quality and professionalism. I will also maintain current links with professional individuals and companies that have visited the department before, and hope to discover new ones – whilst making The Student Workshop something it has never been before.”
