The annual Royal Holloway awards ceremony – known as the RHOSCARS - is an evening that celebrates the many diverse and varied achievements of five different performing arts societies on campus: Absolute Harmony, Drama Society, Musical Theatre Society, Savoy Opera Society and The Student Workshop.
This prestigious event first took place in March 2007, run by a committee of representatives from each society, and chaired by Kim Varvell, President 06-07 of the Drama Society. The event takes place in the impressive Picture Gallery of Royal Holloway’s Founder’s Building, and encompasses free champagne and live music on entry, a three-course, silver-service meal and an array of awards presented by such people as the Principal and his wife, the Dean of Arts and the Students’ Union Sabbaticals. Awards range from Best Actor/Actress to Best Technical Contribution, Best Production, Best Vocal Performance, Best Director, Best Supporting Performance, and so on.
The event is a fantastic way of boosting inter-society relations and bringing everyone together for an extremely special and memorable evening. Each production of The Student Workshop will have nominations (decided by The Student Workshop Committee) for the following catagories:
Best Production
Best Director
Best Actor
Best Actress
Best Technical Contribution
The winners are decided by whoever receives the most votes (taking place online) from students of Royal Holloway.
